What is ISO?

Source: http://www.iso.ch

While many people world over think that ISO is an acronym, it is in reality a word, derived from the Greek word isos, meaning "equal", which is the root of the prefix "iso -" that occurs in a host of terms, such as "isometric" and "isonomy"(equality of laws, or of people before the law).

The International Organisation for Standardisation is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies from some 140 countries, one from each country. Established in 1947 as a non-governmental organisation, ISO's mission is to promote the development of standardisation and related activities in the world with a view to facilitating the international exchange of goods and services, and to developing co-operation in the spheres of intellectual, scientific, technological and economic activity.

ISO 9000 is a series of generic International quality standards. It was published by the International Organisation for Standardisation in 1987 and then revised in 1994 and 2000.

We@ team.Indiainfo.com felt that ISO would help prove to the world that we are a highly process driven organisation with our key focus being to provide the user with a practical and delightful user experience.

How did we go about the Certification process?

We formalised our processes and set up a Quality Management System (QMS) as per the requirements of the ISO 9001 standard. We defined and documented the Quality Management System that consists of a Quality Manual, Quality system procedures and Quality system guidelines. The management selected personnel from every functional area and organised external training to them to be qualified as Internal Quality Auditors. Internal Quality Audits were performed at regular intervals and non-conformances were recorded and action taken on them. The system was monitored and constant improvements were made based on the feedback from the audit. Finally, TUV Rheinland, our Certification body audited us and certified us for ISO 9001. We are indeed proud to be the first Horizontal portal to be ISO 9001 certified.
