Indiainfo upbeat on project 'Simple'
AFTER stabilising its operations and emerging stronger last year with a SWIFT strategy, horizontal portal Indiainfo.com has now come up with project SIMPLE (Services, Interactivity, Multiple approach model, Profitable, Leverage, Emphasis on solutions) to consolidate its operations this financial year.
The company, which registered a break-even in March 2002, has been making profits consistently since then on a monthly basis, said Mr B.G. Mahesh, co-founder and CEO, Indiainfo. "Through project SIMPLE, we plan to build up on the gains and consolidate our operations further," he said.
The company is further reducing its dependence on banner advertising and is focussing on services and products in multiple verticals. "We are looking at leveraging the forward and backward integration, said Mr Giri Balasubramanian, Vice-President, Alliances. In this direction, the company is focussing on service offerings such as translation, foreign language training and overseas placement.
"Our foreign language translation service offering has gained momentum over the last few months and we see a major potential in this segment," Mr Balasubramanian said.
Indiainfo offers foreign language translation services (European languages, Chinese and Japanese). It has several IT majors such as TCS, Wipro, IBM, Digital, MindTree among others in its clientele.
Mr Sriram Hebbar, Vice-President, Marketing, said that the company expected nearly 10 per cent of its revenues to come from the translation services this year. Margins are higher in this area, he added.
The e-solutions channel provides technical services. "We are not looking at a huge growth into technology area. But we are able to leverage the inhouse technology team to develop and implement solutions," Mr Mahesh said.
The company has steady revenue flow from US, India, Korea and the Gulf from its placement and recruitment channel Careerindia.
Last year, nearly 55 per cent of the Indiainfo's revenues came from banner advertising; this year, the company plans to bring it down to 45 per cent. Indiainfo is aiming at revenue of Rs 6 crore this fiscal (up from Rs 3.1 crore last year). There has been a perceptible shift in the confidence level both among the employees and the management after the turnaround. While the attrition level has been minimal, the company has a headcount of some 105.
The portal has also registered growth in page views up to 120 million a month as against 95 million a month a year ago.
